The National Pretrial Competition captures what attorneys do every day in offices and courtrooms across the nation. This year's competition will be held Oct. 1-3, 2009.

Competing teams will:

  1. Receive a problem based on normal pretrial issues;
  2. Write a brief that will be scored;
  3. Make oral arguments; and
  4. Shift to a hearing during which team members will be required to present evidence and make final argument as directed.

Participation in this competition is limited. Preference will be given to those who register early. The registration fee for the National Pretrial Competition is $300, payable to Stetson University College of Law. This fee is non-refundable unless your school is not chosen to participate. A written confirmation of your entry will be sent electronically within five (5) days of your entry submission.

Regent University School of Law students won the second annual National Pretrial Competition held Oct. 1-3 on Stetson University College of Law’s Gulfport campus. Regent University School of Law student Jerry Harris was named Best Advocate in the final round of competition.

A full field of eight teams of law students competed this year for a chance to win the championship. Teams from Baylor Law School, Chapman University School of Law, Chicago-Kent College of Law, John Marshall School of Law, Mississippi College School of Law, Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University, Regent University School of Law and Stetson Law participated.
