RECIPROCITY AND WAIVING INTO JURISDICTIONS
Reciprocity
"Reciprocity" means that an attorney licensed to practice in one state can "transfer" bar membership to another state without having to take a bar examination, or without having to take the same examination as nonattorneys. There is no reciprocity between Florida and any other state. For a list of states that do have reciprocity with each other, and the processes to obtain reciprocity, consult http://www.abanet.org/legaled/publications/compguide2005/chart9.pdf.
Waiving into Another Jurisdiction
Although Florida does not accept a Multistate Bar Examination score from another jurisdiction, some jurisdictions will allow an applicant to "waive" in. This means that the second jurisdiction will accept the MBE score from another jurisdiction (if high enough) and will allow the applicant to be admitted without sitting for that jurisdiction's essay examination. For additional information about waiving into other jurisdictions, consult http://www.abanet.org/legaled/publications/compguide2005/chart8.pdf
.
You may request that your Florida MBE score be transferred to another jurisdiction. There is a $25.00 fee. You should submit your written request with fee to the appropriate agency indicated below:
