INTRODUCTION
To become licensed to practice law in a state, a law-school graduate must sit for the bar examination. The Florida Bar Examination consists of the General Bar Examination and the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE). The General Bar Examination is administered on the last Tuesday and Wednesday during the months of February and July. The MPRE is administered in March, August, and November by the National Conference of Bar Examiners. Bar examinations in most other states are offered at similar times.
To sit for the bar in a given state, you must meet certain deadlines and requirements. For the requirements in Florida, consult the web site for the Florida Board of Bar Examiners at http://www.floridabarexam.org/, including Rule 4 of the Rules of the Supreme Court Relating to Admission to the Bar, which is available at http://www.floridabarexam.org/; (select "Rules" from the left-hand column, and scroll down until you find Rule 4).
Because requirements to sit for a bar examination change from time to time, always consult the official board of bar examiners web site for the most current information.
To contact boards of bar examiners in other jurisdictions, consult http://jurist.law.pitt.edu/barexam.htm (this site also provides recent bar examination results from each jurisdiction).
