November 6, 2002: Gulfport, Fla., - Ken Lawson, U.S. Treasury Department Assistant Secretary of Enforcement, will speak at Stetson University College of Law on Thursday, Nov. 7, at noon in the Great Hall.
Mr. Lawson will speak about "The Financing of Terrorism" and the Treasury Department's efforts to block and seize terrorist funds. Stetson Professor Peter Fitzgerald, who has written extensively on financial sanctions against terrorists, coordinated the visit.
As Assistant Secretary for Enforcement, Mr. Lawson advises and assists the Under Secretary for Enforcement on treasury law enforcement matters, including counterterrorist financing, money laundering and other financial crimes, counterfeiting, drug interdiction, violent crime, and training of federal, state and local law enforcement. He also oversees the Office of Foreign Assets Control and the implementation of all treasury-related provisions in the 2001 Patriot Act.
Stetson's International Law Society and the Business Law Society are sponsoring Mr. Lawson's appearance at Stetson University College of Law.
