October 23, 2002: Gulfport, Fla., -- Stetson University College of Law assembled a national panel of legal experts on campus Oct. 18, to examine the long-term legal needs of disabled and elderly individuals during the "Special Needs Trusts IV" seminar.
"This is a new and highly specialized area of law that is growing in importance. Our goal was to provide attorneys, CPAs, banking officials and professional guardians with the expertise they need when working with special needs trusts," said seminar chair-Rebecca C. Morgan, Boston Asset Management Distinguished Professor of Law, Stetson University College of Law.
Morgan added special needs trusts require extensive planning. "A special needs trust must be carefully drafted in accordance with state and federal guidelines to provide a secure lifestyle for disabled and elder individuals. The goal is to draft a trust that will avoid problems down the road."
