March 22, 2002: St. Petersburg, Fla. - Mock trial teams from 34 colleges and universities across the nation will compete April 12-14 in a tournament for the American Mock Trial Association at Stetson University College of Law. More than 400 undergraduate students are expected to compete in the national tournament, which will be held in courtrooms on Stetson's campus and in the Circuit Civil courthouse in downtown St. Petersburg. Local judges and attorneys will preside over each mock trial. "We are very pleased with the opportunity to introduce the College of Law and the St. Petersburg/Gulfport area to all these talented students," said Stetson Law Dean Gary Vause. The All-American Honors trial and championship round will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 14 at Stetson. "My understanding of the rules of evidence surpasses that of any graduating law student without trial team experience," said Stetson student Natalia Kirayoglu, who participated in AMTA during her undergraduate years. "Trial team has taught me how to litigate, and how to win a trial on merits."
