Professor Fitzgerald will develop and teach a new course in International Trade and Information Technology Law at Edinburgh's Arts & Humanities Research Board, Centre for Studies in Intellectual Property and Technology Law. "I'm honored to be able to participate in the 2003-2004 Fulbright program and represent Stetson University College of Law and my country," said Professor Fitzgerald. "As one who studies the process of globalization through advances in trade and technology, it's clear that the exchange of views and the lasting ties that the Fulbright program promotes are vitally important in today's increasingly complex and fractious world." Professor Fitzgerald is one of approximately 800 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad to some 140 countries for the 2003-2004 academic year as Fulbright Scholars. Professor Fitzgerald writes and speaks widely on international trade and technology matters. A member of the NAFTA Bi-National Dispute Panel Roster, Professor Fitzgerald served as an international arbitrator reviewing Canadian anti-dumping orders affecting U.S. exports, participated in the Swedish government's Ad Hoc Working Group on Targeted Financial Sanctions, testified before the Congressionally created Judicial Review Commission on Foreign Assets Control and has appeared before numerous international professional organizations. The Fulbright Program, America's flagship international educational exchange activity, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the program's purpose is to build mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries. Over its 57 years of existence, more than 250,000 American and foreign university students, faculty and professionals have participated in one of the several Fulbright exchange programs. Fulbright Scholars are selected for their academic or professional achievement and because they have demonstrated extraordinary leadership potential. Among thousands of prominent Fulbright Scholar alumni are Milton Friedman, Nobel Prize winning economist; Alan Leshner, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS); Rita Dove, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and Craig Barrett, CEO of Intel Corporation. ### Stetson University College of Law is Florida's first law school.
