Stetson University College of Law and AARP establish journal, conference on international aging, law and policy

April 29, 2003:  Gulfport, Fla. - Stetson University College of Law has joined forces with the AARP to establish an academic journal and conference to focus on international issues of aging and law.

"We are extremely excited to work with AARP. They are well-respected for their policy efforts and internationally recognized for their work on behalf of seniors," said Stetson Professor Rebecca C. Morgan, faculty chair of elder and disability law and director of the Center for Excellence in Elder Law.

The agreement between Stetson and the AARP lays the groundwork for the new Journal of International Aging, Law and Policy to be published annually in conjunction with a major conference, which will generate conference papers and articles for the journal. The first conference and journal issue are planned for later this year.

"We believe our partnership with AARP will allow us to expand the work we have been doing on elder law issues," said Morgan. "The conferences and journals will be valuable resources for advocates the world over."

Stetson professors James W. Fox Jr. and Richard B. Graves III will edit the Journal of International Aging, Law and Policy. "With issues concerning aging likely to be high on the agenda of the international community in the 21st century, the journal will serve as an important forum for the emerging international study and development of law and public policy on aging issues," said Fox.

Stetson's other plans for its Center for Excellence in Elder Law include a consumer protection education program, clinical programs for students, and continuing legal education programs for practicing attorneys and business professionals.
