A Guide to Using RefWorks
Introduction
Refworks is a citation machine capable of formatting references in Bluebook, M.L.A, and A.P.A. Stetson affiliated users can also manually enter citations in ALWD format.

RefWorks can be accessed by going to the Stetson homepage, click on library at the top, click on Gulfport, and then click on RefWorks on the left-hand side menu.

Organizing your research in RefWorks

3. You can put references you have already placed into RefWorks by going to the "References Tab," clicking the "Selected Button," checking off all of the references you wish to move, and then going to the small folder icon to use the drop down to select the folder where you would like to place the references. To navigate to your folder, click on the "Organize Folders" tab, and choose a folder.
Adding Data to RefWorks
1. You can export data from our catalog at http://library.law.stetson.edu Search using the Encore search box, click on an item you are interested in, and then choose"Export to RefWorks" at the top of the screen. In some of our databases, such as Ebsco's Academic Search Premier, you can open an article click on an "Export Button," and then choose "Direct Export to RefWorks." Note that you cannot do this if you are using ALWD as your citation style. You must enter ALWD references manually.
2. You can also manually enter a reference. This is the only way to enter a citation in ALWD. A reference cannot be exported automatically from the catalog or a database in ALWD format. To enter a reference manually, click on "References," and "Add new." Choose the "Output Style" by using the dropdown next to "Fields Used By This Style." Next, use the drop down to choose the appropriate "Reference Type" for the item you are citing. Fill in all of the fields. If you're entering something into ALWD, be sure to click on "Additional Comments about ALWD" to see what you must put in each field. You want to do this because what goes in each field is not always intuitive. Finally, choose "Save Reference."
