Biodiversity-Environmental Law Service Opportunities
Students can participate with the following environmental organizations:
- Ramsar Secretariat and Ramsar Scientific and Technical Review Panel
Professor Royal Gardner and Stetson students provided comments to the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) on a draft Rwandan Marshlands Law. The bill, which became law at end of 2009, governs the use and management of 860 Rwandan marshlands (10.6 percent of the country's total surface area) and incorporates the Ramsar principle of wise use of wetlands. - U.S. National Ramsar Committee
Stetson students worked with existing U.S. Ramsar sites to assist the sites in updating their Ramsar Information Sheets (RIS). Students also worked with the National Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and adjacent Panther Island Mitigation Bank in drafting an RIS, which was the first step toward its designation as a wetland of international importance. An on-site designation ceremony on Feb. 18, 2010, recognized Stetson's important contributions. In summer 2010, a Stetson student served as an intern with the USNRC in Maryland. - Alliance for International Reforestation
- Tampa Bay Watch
