List Description

E-COMMERCELAW is an electronic mailing list for students taking courses in e-commerce law and policy, including the Stetson University College of Law Computer Law Seminar on Electronic Commerce, and others enrolled in similar courses or with similar interests, elsewhere. 

Joining or Leaving the List

E-mail messages sent to the E-COMMERCELAW discussion list will automatically be sent to the e-mail accounts of all subscribers, and will also appear on the web page archives associated with the list. It is also possible to post a message to the list from the web page on which the threaded archive appears. Thus, you can read/send messages to the list from either your e-mail account or from your web browser, whichever you prefer. Try both methods to determine which  one you are most comfortable using. New listserv users, in particular, may find reading and posting message from the web page is easier than just using their e-mail software.

TO JOIN the list, you may EITHER:

(1) send an e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com, with the body of the message reading as follows:

subscribe e-commercelaw firstname lastname
(replacing "firstname" and "lastname" with your own name)

OR 

(2) follow the instructions on the "Join or Leave the E-COMMERCELAW List" web page

TO LEAVE the list, or "unsubscribe", 

(1) either e-mail this message to  listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com:

signoff e-commercelaw

(2) or again follow the instructions on the "Join or Leave the E-COMMERCELAW List" web page.

Changing Subscriber Account Settings

Subscribers or Users may change many of their account settings themselves, for example setting or removing "digest" deliveries, or temporarily suspending message delivery, on the  "Join or Leave the E-COMMERCELAW List" web page.

Listserv User's Manual

A Users Manual is available on the web if you have questions about the E-COMMERCELAW listserv. For additional information regarding other law-related electronic mailing lists, and the commands which are recognized by the major software programs used by many of these lists, click here.  One other law student listserv, which you may also want to consider joining, is the  CYBERSPACELAW list established by Professor David Sorkin at the John Marshall Law School for a general discussion of computer related legal questions. The CYBERSPACELAW list is open to anyone, anywhere, interested in these types of issues. 

Publicly Accessible Archive

A public ARCHIVE of all messages posted to E-COMMERCELAW is available on the World Wide Web.

1. E-COMMERCELAW is an electronic discussion list focused on the legal and policy challenges created by electronic commerce, for law students who are interested in the legal issues associated with e-commerce and its related technologies. Others are welcome to participate, space permitting (there is currently a limit on the number of subscribers); please consider, however, whether a different mailing list or newsgroup might be more appropriate. (See LSoft's Catalist, for a catalog of other LISTSERV® lists.)

2. The E-COMMERCELAW list is intended for discussions relevant to the study of  legal and policy issues relating to electronic commerce. Commercial postings and bulk e-mail are not permitted, and off-topic messages are discouraged.

3. Please be considerate of your fellow subscribers. Don't dominate the list by posting several messages over a period of a few days, especially if few others are participating actively; most of us are busy people. Don't "flame" others with personal attacks. (If you must do so, send a personal message and keep it off the list.) Observe proper "nettiquette."

4. Each message should bear a brief subject line that describes the substance of the message. Replies (messages in the same thread) ordinarily should use the same subject line, as long as they continue to address the same general topic. If you are raising a new topic, however, use a new subject line rather than recycling an old subject line from a previous posting.

5. If you're replying to someone else's posting, consider whether your reply adds new substantive information that is likely to be of interest to everyone on the list. If your reply is mainly directed at the original poster, send it just to that person rather than to the entire list. Double-check the recipient line before sending a message to make sure that you aren't inadvertently sending a personal message to the entire list.

6. When you are replying to another post, quote just enough of it to provide context for those who may not have just read the other message. Remember, the archives are publicly accessible, so readers can always go there if they want to re-read the original message. (The archives are available here.)

    

7. To remove yourself from the subscription list, send an e-mail message to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com containing only the following line:

signoff e-commercelaw   (in the text of the message, not the subject line).

8. Refer to the Stetson University College of Law Computer and Network Use Policy for any questions affecting or regarding the use of the College's computing resources.
