Professor Long joined Stetson after having taught legal research and writing for nine years at J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University, and at the University of Oregon School of Law. Professor Long has practiced with the firms of Walstad & Babcock in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Morrison & Foerster in Orange County, Calif. He is currently associated with the firm of Hill, Johnson & Schmutz in Provo, Utah. His practice is primarily focused on appellate and motion practice in the areas of intellectual property, contract, and construction law. Professor Long's scholarship focuses on empirical analyses of language patterns in appellate briefs and opinions. His latest article, "Clearly Using Intensifiers Is Very Bad-Or Is It?," was published in the Idaho Law Review. Professor Long presented his research at the 2008 Legal Writing Institute Conference.

Professor Long graduated with a J.D. from Brigham Young University in 1986. While at BYU, Professor Long was a member of the BYU Journal of Legal Studies, a member of the BYU Comparative Law Journal, and a member of the Jessup International Moot Court Competition team.
