Professor Robert Bickel graduated from the Florida State University in 1968, with highest honors. Following a brief period of service in the United States Department of Justice Honors Program, he served for seven years as General Counsel for Florida State University. Professor Bickel joined the Stetson faculty in 1978, serving also as Assistant Dean for several years.

Professor Bickel's teaching, research and writing interests include Torts, Employment Discrimination Law, Constitutional Law and Civil Rights, and Higher Education Law. He has authored or co-authored two books, and more than twenty-five book chapters, articles and monographs, and has presented papers and conducted professional development sessions at national, regional and state education association meetings and at college and university campuses throughout the country for 30 years.

Professor Bickel is an elected member of the American Law Institute, and is a Fellow of the National Association of College and University Attorneys. He has been presented with honorary degrees from Flagler College and Western New England College, and in 1997 was presented with the ABA's Harrison Tweed Award for Continuing Legal Education.
