ANNOUNCES
The 28th Annual National Conference on
Law & Higher Education

February 17-21, 2007
Sheraton Sand Key, Clearwater Beach, Florida

THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE

The National Conference on Law & Higher Education was unique when first presented in 1980 - because it proposed the importance of an annual dialogue between higher education administrators and attorneys: By bringing law and policy professionals together, the National Conference has since offered the opportunity for professional development at its highest level - with a focus on law and policy formulation and administration in an interdisciplinary context. This innovative approach (recognized by the American Bar Association's highest award for continuing legal education) has brought about a remarkable trend toward prevention-based practices, and has facilitated more successful approaches to complex legal issues which influence policy formulation and administration.

The Conference empowers both lawyers and administrators to engage in strategies which are proactive and which reduce the likelihood of situations that cause contentious litigation or internal conflict about rights and responsibilities. The Conference's faculty has been carefully chosen because of their expertise as scholars and practitioners - and their understanding of intersectional issues which are informed by the perspective of both higher education lawyers and administrators who formulate and administer institutional policy. Conference presentations focus on holistic approaches and the elimination of barriers or misconceptions which cause flaws in initiatives or less than successful approaches to intervention and dispute resolution. Many conferences on the general subject of legal issues now exist, but the National Conference continues to be internationally recognized for its interdisciplinary focus, and the effectiveness of its approach to the collective professional development of university law and policy professionals in the context of current issues in law and higher education.
